My desk decoration!

I recently made a cherry blossom-themed kusudama bouquet but I wasn’t able to take it to my office to display, so I shuffled a few things around and wanted to show off my desk decoration too. It’s only small at the moment, it won’t be as extensive as my home decoration tour.

I actually mostly do my office job remotely but I do go to the office once a week and have a personal desk, so I can personalise it with anything I want. In my first year, I grabbed a few jars of stuff I made to take with me for the new office space, of which some have been sitting there ever since. It looks like some of these have not been previously featured on my blog as well!

The quality of the photo might be lower due to the blurring tool that I used post-processing to make sure you couldn’t see anything or anyone in the background.

The 3D origami peacock was made a while ago. Much like my 3D origami swan pot, I put a piece of card inside it so it can function as a pen pot. The gel pens are for annotations and for if I feel like drawing on a break! It’s easily my favourite thing here as it is both functional and eye-catching. I used the basic swan design and converted it to a peacock with the use of bright colours and tail feathers instead of wings. I also added a few tufts of paper to resemble a crest.

The other things are in jars as they are compact and easy to take on a journey to the office. The kusudama bouquet I made this month was just a bit too tall, both to transport and to display, so I swapped it out for this smaller bouquet and jar. I previously had a small jar of kusudama flowers and a vase of lilies here.

An amusing thing I have on my desk as well is a wristband and a trophy from coming runner-up in a corporate team-based activity. I somehow got it in my first year with the company on a technicality? It was a funny story, but the people in the office have changed a lot since I started, so I’m not sure it means anything to my current colleagues. I decided to put a spare kusudama inside the trophy as I have quite a few at home sharing the same hanging hooks. It doesn’t quite fill the space up, but the butterflies hang off the side.

I originally wanted to hang them off my monitor but the loops I normally make are too small, so I would need to make new ones in the future.

I would like to add more functional projects to my desk but I’ll need to research new projects. Watch this space!

Update 09/08/2025: I found the photo of the first decorations on my desk! The straw star jar has been a permanent mainstay, but I also had these lilies in a vase. They were folded from festival-pattern paper and had no embellishments on them.
