Not too long after I landed back from my Japan holiday did I need to travel again for a friend’s wedding party, but I had enough time to put together a custom wedding card beforehand. I had stacks of monochromatic patterns to pair with my new wedding-themed ribbons and stamps. I wanted it to look luxurious!

I liked both the black and white patterns and wanted to use them both, so I took a spare wooden heart from a previous project and traced and cut out hearts. Cutting by hand can sometimes leave rough edges so I had to trim them a few times.

I also cut out various shapes and sizes of card, vellum and ribbon. The floral pattern on the vellum was what prompted me to make a black and white wedding card in the first place! I also had some sticky white flowers and a printed sentiment that I wanted to include in some way.
With the ribbon and the card, I wanted to arrange a vertical design going through the middle.

It’s been a while since I used rubber stamps for cardmaking. You are meant to press the stamp into the ink pad, then press the stamp into the area of choice. Sounds simple, yet I would press too hard sometimes and create extra lines or smudges. It took a couple of attempts to stamp an image that I was happy with!

I coloured the stamped designs in with coloured markers. It does go against the monochromatic colour scheme I had going on here, but I thought the stamps would look weird without any colour! I used the pair of wedding rings and the pair of wine glasses stamps, then I cut the white card down to size and stuck them to grey card backing.

Once all the pieces were made, I started putting everything together. The paper and card was stuck down with liquid glue. The ribbon was taped down behind the card. The individual cut outs such as the hearts and the stamped images were stuck down with 3D foam cubes to add layering and depth.

I gave it a day to make sure all the glue was secured and then wrote my message in the card.
I’ve been really enjoying making cards for people again. I have been using a mix of old and new materials to come up with a unique and custom design. I can only hope that the recipient likes them as much as I do!
